For more than 30 years, City Rocks has given Upstate New York players a path to the national stage. Now we're building a home to match.
Humble Beginnings
In 1993, a few volunteer coaches pulled together a team of 12- and 13-year-olds in Albany. At the time, no Upstate program was playing on the national summer circuit. The top teams all came from New York City, New Jersey and Indiana.
Those first City Rocks teams took their lumps, but they proved a point: Upstate kids deserved the same chance to be seen. Even the name came from the program's first uniform sponsor, the maker of The Rock basketball.
Earning Our Place
Wins over nationally known teams got City Rocks noticed, and Nike came calling. Today we're a longtime member of Nike's Elite Youth Basketball League (EYBL). Every summer we compete against the best programs in the country, and in 2018 that included a run to the Nike Peach Jam quarterfinals.

The Next Chapter: A Home in Downtown Albany
In more than three decades, City Rocks has never had a court of its own. Our teams train and compete in shared and rented gyms across the Capital Region.
We're working to change that with a permanent home in downtown Albany. It will be a place to train, host events, and bring players, families and the community together all year.
