Sterling Taplin intro
Ben Doster DeaconsIllustrated.com
Self-proclaimed Buffalo boy, Sterling Taplin is challenging himself.
The
6-foot-2, 185-pound 2014 prospect is eligible to play at the U16 level,
but suits up for the Albany City Rocks U17 team and is competing well.
After helping lead Buffalo (NY) Williamsville North to a 13-8 record
last season the rising junior shooting guard is averaging 6.4 points
after nine games on the EYBL circuit. | | | | Buffalo (NY) Williamsville North SG Sterling Taplin claims two scholarship offers. |
"Playing
with the 17's is kind of different from the 16's, but otherwise it's
good for me," Taplin said. "In my game I'm really working on being able
to see the court and my ball-handling skills. I give it my all all the
time and I never give up. I believe in my team at all times."
Taplin
claims scholarship offers from Buffalo and Boston University, and said
he is looking at Michigan State and Syracuse. He grew up cheering for
the hometown Bulls and the nationally acclaimed Spartans. His dream is
to play for Michigan State.
He added Wake Forest is an option and would be a great school to attend, which is where Albany City Rocks alum Tyler Cavanaugh will be playing next season.
"I
watched him [Cavanaugh] last year," Taplin said. "The leadership that
he had that's what really got him his looks; his leadership and how
hard he played and his effort."
"He's a dominant player and some
people don't see that. They look at him and think that he's not going
to be the best scorer, but he'll come out and have 20 [points] on you
in a heartbeat."
Wake Forest assistant coach Jeff Battle
watched Taplin for the first time Saturday, April 28 at the Boo
Williams Sportsplex. Only time will tell if the Demon Deacons will make
an effort to pursue the Buffalo product.
Battle also scouted his teammate, Chinoso Obokoh.
